Two Grey Hills

Navajo Rug
Two Grey Hills style Rug
Donated by the estate of Elinor and Vincent Ostrom

Two Grey Hills rugs are woven with the upmost technical precision.  Characteristic elements of design include crosses, diamonds, steps and stars in black, white, red, brown, and grey.  The Two Grey Hills style is known for dense, all-over design as well as a stabilizing feeling of balance and symmetry.  One reason for the peculiar character of these rugs is the influence of trader J.B. Moore, who introduced Oriental-style rugs in Crystal as the model for future designs by 1911.
