Ganado Style Navajo Rug
Bequest from Elinor and Vincent Ostrom

Ganado style rugs are associated with Hubbell’s trading post in Ganado, Arizona.  Ganado rugs can be recognized by their use of deep red alongside striking black, grey, and white.  The dominant geometric motif of the Ganado pattern is a large stepped diamond.  Despite their relative simplicity, the visual effect of the Ganado rug is striking; the example pictured above hangs in the lobby of the Mathers Museum.
