Brief Description

Tan, large, wooden spoon.

Description

Tan, large, wooden spoon. Handle is bent at a slight angle 8 1/2” from the end and is about 1/2” wide. The handle is 1/2” thick at end and gently deepens to 1 1/4” thick where it connects to the bowl. The end of the handle ends in a straight edge. Some carving marks are visible on the handle, but are mostly smoothed, perhaps from use. The handle has four distinct rectangular sides. The bowl is 3 1/2” x 3 3/4” Wx2 3/4” D. The walls of the bowls are 1/8” thick at the rim. The exterior of the bowl is smoothly finished, but the interior is more rough. Carving marks are visible on all surfaces, but are relatively smoothed, perhaps from use. The bowl ends in a somewhat roughly cut flat edge where it flows into the handle. The bowl has a relatively round rim and comes to a gentle curve on the other side. The spoon is hand carved from one piece of swamp/bald cypress. It is lightweight for size. Often used for Softkee beverage. Spoon shows signs of age, use, and wear, including dark stains, superficial cracks in the wood, and signs of wear, such as smoothed, round edges, on the rim of the bowl and handle. In addition, a brown, rough, thumbprint sized stain near the crook of the handle may be evidence of dried adhesive or other applied substance.
