Brief Description
Multicolored cloth apron with patchwork and two ties.
Description
Multicolored cloth apron with patchwork and two ties. Garment is constructed of strips of fabric machine sewn together to form a pattern of horizontal bands. The black bottom strip is folded in half and sewn to the strip above to finish this edge. Two strips of black are folded in half and sewn to each of the two vertical edges to finish them with raw edges visible on the back. Each side strip has one row of mustard yellow ric rack appliquéd with yellow thread to it, forming a vertical line. The ric rack begins at the bottom edge of the left vertical strip, continues (without being cut) across the waistband, and continues to the bottom edge of the right vertical strip in one continuous line. The top of the main body of the apron has been gathered and is sewn into a folded over strip of black cloth to finish the edge and form a 15 1/2 waistband. This folded strip extends beyond the waist band to form a tie on each side (22” on right, 21” on the left). Each tie has a seam where the cloth has been sewn on to make the strip longer (the right near the end of the tie, the left near the waistband). These ties could be used to fasten the garment around the waist. The waistband and ties are machine sewn with black thread and are finished with no visible raw edges. The bands that compose the body of the apron are machine sewn together with white thread, with raw edges on the back. From the bottom the design is: a wide band of black with a row of red ric rac appliquéd near the top, a narrow band of white, a wide band of black, red, and mustard yellow, a wide band of green, red, and white patchwork in a version of ‘mountain pattern’, a narrow band of mustard yellow, a wide band of black with a row of white ric rac appliquéd on the bottom and bright pink ric rak appliquéd on the top, a narrow band of green, a wide band of brown, blue, and orange patchwork, diagonal strip and diamond pattern, a narrow band of green, and a wide band of black with bright pink ric rac appliquéd on the bottom.
