Brief Description
Multicolored cloth apron with patchwork and two ties.
Description
Multicolored cloth apron with patchwork and two ties. Garment is constructed with strips of fabric machine sewn together to form a pattern of horizontal bands. The bottom edge is folded once and hemmed leaving a raw edge on the inside of the garment. Two strips of navy are folded in half and sewn to each of the two vertical edges to finish them. The top of the main body of the apron has been pleated and is sewn into a folded over strip of navy cloth to finish the edge and form a waistband. This folded strip extends beyond the 13” waistband to form a navy tie on each side (23” and 20’ long), which could fasten the garment around the waist. The ties and waistband are finished with no visible raw edges. All of these elements are machine sewn with black thread. The navy cotton bands that compose the body of the apron are machine sewn together with white thread, with visible raw edges on the back. From the bottom, the design is a medium turquoise band, a medium lavender band, a wide navy band with a very narrow strip of orange appliquéd near the top, a very narrow strip of light pink appliquéd near the top, a narrow yellow band, a wide band of yellow and red pieced patchwork in a zigzag pattern, a narrow light blue band, a wide navy band with a very narrow strip of orange appliquéd near the bottom and a very narrow strip of light pink appliquéd near the top, a medium orange band, a medium band of light blue and light pink pieced patchwork in an interlocking triangle pattern, a medium red band, a medium orange band, a wide navy band with a very narrow strip of light blue appliquéd near the bottom and a very narrow strip of orange appliquéd near the top, a medium light pink band, a medium jade green band, a medium band of jade green, yellow, red, and white pieced patchwork in a more complex inverted triangle pattern, and a medium navy band with a very narrow band of yellow appliquéd near the bottom of the strip. The appliquéd strips are composed of handmade tape (not cut on the bias) with some loose threads visible on front of the garment.
