The cultural revitalization movement of the 1960s and 1970s, which included Ojibwe artists who identified with the Woodlands School art style, infused energy into the Manitoulin Island tourist art economy. The Ostroms began collecting as tourists but became more intimately connected with the art, the island’s First Nations peoples, and the island itself over time.
